Lady in the Dark
Book by Moss Hart, Music by Kurt Weill, Lyrics by Ira Gershwin
New York.Reality & Dream.
My Liza Elliot is a second-generation Chinese-American who struggles with her cultural identity and with her sense of self as a woman. As Liza becomes more avoidant of her childhood traumas, her dreams become more nightmarish. Ultimately, she sings her final, signature song very simply. Alone with the audience, she acknowledges her needs, accepts herself, and demonstrates her newfound sense of balance in work and in love.
