In this world, vanity is a trophy, money is a tool for power, and appearances are everything. The affluent extract from western aesthetics to boast their worldliness and ability to access foreign concepts, but exploit local materials and local craftspeople. The wealthy really only socialize with the wealthy, unless your beauty surpasses your social class.
